6 August - 7th shipment of 2010 for Namibia
We have just dispatched the most recent container load of 361 bicycles including 50 ex postman's bikes donated by The Royal Mail - this one is going to the great project in Namibia, The Bicycle Empowerment Network. This project's main beneficiary group is health workers who are given bicycles to help with their work. On a bicycle, Health Visitors, Midwives and HIV Support Workers can visit many more patients each day than could be reached on foot. Re~Cycle have sent more than 2,000 bicycles to BEN, Namibia - thank you to all our bike donors.
As the road conditions in rural Namibia are very poor, only Mountain Bikes with wide, thick tread tyres were sent together with a good supply of spare parts. We also sent a large number of part used tyres, many kindly donated by Evans Cycles.
This shipment was the 7th of this year so we have already equalled the number of sent in 2009. The next shipment will go to The Olympic Youth Project, Mombasa, Kenya which is supported by the small but effective UK charity, Glad's House.
