Volunteer

We're a fairly small organisation that benefits greatly from the support of our wonderful team of volunteers and we are always looking for others to join us. We hope to make volunteering for Re-Cycle a rewarding and enjoyable experience for all. Having a practical nature is useful but appropriate training is provided and the only qualification needed is enthusiasm.

We have volunteers of all shapes and sizes! From young people spending a week or two with us for work experience to young at heart but maybe retired people. Many of our volunteers enjoy good health but some are not so fortunate and come to Re-Cycle as part of their journey to recovery. Some of our volunteers have been with us for many years whilst others are only with us for a shorter time. All new volunteers will receive a warm welcome from friendly and supportive colleagues, make a valuable contribution to our work, enjoy being part of a team and benefit from the satisfaction of being involved with something useful that results in people's life prospects in Africa being improved.

Most of our volunteers come to us at Colchester for one morning or afternoon a week. We have some who will spend a day with us and there are some who enjoy it so much they come in a couple of times a week. We can be flexible depending on what interests you and how much time you're able to commit. Our volunteers help with various things including:

  • Warehouse - Helping to receive deliveries, load containers, preparing bikes for shipping,
  • Workshop - Dismantling damaged bikes for valuable spare parts and sorting and packing the parts for shipment
  • eBay listings - Helping to raise valuable funds by selling donated items
  • Drivers of 7.5-ton vans - for longer journeys picking up bikes collected for us in bulk. Minimum age 25 with a clean licence required and professional driving experience preferred for this second role.

Even if you are unable to make a regular commitment, one-off help is always appreciated, maybe at one of our regular container loadings for example.

Still interested? Please get in touch

We're very flexible and welcome any offers to join us. Please download the volunteer application form and either email it to us (info@re-cycle.org), come along to our warehouse in Colchester and bring it with you or phone us for a chat.

Like many charities, Re~Cycle would not be able to operate without the help of a large number of committed and capable volunteers - thank you all.
