Jake is our newest trustee and joined us in January 2016.

Jake cycles across London each day to work at the international development organization ActionAid. As Monitoring & Evaluation Manager he provides technical support to ensure the organization can measure the impact and improve the effectiveness of its work. Jake has been in similar roles for the last ten years in the UK, Afghanistan, South Sudan and Sierra Leone, and has worked in numerous other countries across Africa. Jake and Re~Cycle:
Both being a cyclist and having spent a lot of time in Africa (seeing people walking with Huge Loads), Jake really 'gets' what we do. As well as a general governance role, Jake is supporting our new African Partner Manager with his work on getting feedback and setting up/running monitoring and evaluation (M&E).

Julie Neuhoff

Julie Neuhoff

Julie joined us in July 2015. She is passionate about cycling and has cycled in South Africa, USA, South America, Spain, France, Holland and all around the UK. She rides her bike to work a few days each week as she sees this is an efficient way of commuting and is good for one’s body and soul.

Julie is a Director at Network Rail responsible for modernising processes and practices and supporting the growth in public transport. She studied Business Management and Human Resources at Stellenbosch university in Cape Town and did her masters at Hull University.

Julie and Re~Cycle:
Julie first became interested in being a trustee after a biking and pony trekking holiday in Lesotho, a small semi-independent country in South Africa; where her guide was adamant that the reason he kept coming second in local races was due to his nemesis having clip in pedals (he was wearing flip flops that were too small for him). This inspired her to join an organisation where she can help send second hand cycling equipment, bikes, helmets, shoes and so on to change people’s lives in Africa.

Merlin MatthewsMerlin Matthews

Studied management at the LSE, thinking of doing the “city slicker” thing, abandoned after discovering some of the short-term greedy craziness in the global business. Became Dr Bike at the LSE, which led to Re~Cycle. Read the History.

Involved in the anti-road protest movement, tree village, Swampy etc. Attended the SSE (School for Social Entrepreneurs) to help grow Re~Cycle, where he met David Gettman. Keen cyclist as form of transport, believes bike and train is a great combination - does not own a car.

Merlin and Re~Cycle:
Passionate about Re~Cycle and its ability to impact people’s lives. Wants to scale Re~Cycle up, in increase numbers of people benefiting and reduce waste of bikes. Very clued up about all aspects, having set it up and talked to other bike reuse projects and African partners over the years.

Currently working on future-proofing Re~Cycle: building a strong team and creating sustainable practices internally, to support the exciting challenges and opportunities of changes in the field.

Re~Cycle’s constitution and the Charity Commission provide permission for the founder to be both a Trustee and a paid CEO, and Re~Cycle follows the Charity Commission’s strict guidelines around how this is managed.
