Many organisations donate new bikes, as well as engage in bicycle-orientated sustainable projects around the world. Below you will find a list of the ones we know about. If you're just interested in donating an old bike, we've got a list of those organisations HERE.

 

International Bicycle Aid Projects

International Bicycle Fund: A non-governmental, nonprofit organization promoting bicycle transport, economic development, international understanding, and safety education. They have a list of bike shipping organisations HERE.

World Bicycle Relief: USA. "The mission of World Bicycle Relief is to provide access to independence and livelihood through The Power of Bicycles.

Founded by SRAM Corporation and Trek Bicycles in 2005 and supported by many individuals, foundations and corporations, World Bicycle Relief specializes in large-scale, comprehensive bicycle programs by providing supply chain management, technical knowledge and logistics expertise to poverty relief and disaster assistance initiatives."

Wheels 4 Life: Rely on donations to purchase new bikes for those in need of them in Africa and other developing nations.

UWABA: Community Cycling in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Velomondial: International bike advocacy. Based in The Netherlands, Velo Mondial has been promoting cycling as a positive mode of transport for the past ten years.

African Bicycle Design: A blog looking at designing bikes more suitable for use in developing nations.

Bamboosero: Bamboo frames made in Africa from a renewable resource (creating local employment) then shipped to the USA to be built up into funky bicycles. Don't believe that bamboo is better than steel - check out their website!

Yuba Ride: Manufactures, designs bicycle for transport and sustainable transportation: utility bicycle, cargo bike, commuter bike. Has been kind enough to donate some bikes to BSPW, our old African partner in Uganda.

Keep Colchester Cycling: This interactive campaign, supported by Cycle Colchester, is being launched to simultaneously showcase Colchester and encourage people to enjoy the town from a free-to-hire bike.

Tool Recycling Charities

Tools For Self Reliance: Supply kits of hand tools to African artisans and train people the skills to use them - carpentry, metalworking, construction etc.

Tools With A Mission: also send tools and sewing machines to Africa and supply Re~Cycle with tools appropriate for our partners to repair and maintain bikes

 

Re-Cycle Supporters

Transition Town Wivenhoe: In a Transition community residends work together to make a transition to a re-locatised, low carbon and more resiliant future that will be less affected by rising fossil fuel prices: growing more food, building stronger local economies, improving energy effeciency, producing local renewable energy, reducing car dependency and so on.

Go Travel Solutions: Leicester based transport consultancy (a social enterprise and is constituted as a co-operative) that has designated Re~Cycle as its 2009 charity. It works across the UK providing sustainable transport services for businesses, organisations, transport operators and transport planners.

Headwater: Cycling, Walking and other activity holidays and keen Re-Cycle supporters. Donate valuable spare parts to us

Recyke y'Bike: Great bike recycling project in Newcastle. As well as a wide range of things, they also regularly send bikes to us to ship to Africa

Solar Bike Wales is a project develop a prototype for a lightweight solar-powered vehicle, which will allow for 100% carbon emission free travelling. Sean has kindly chosen to support Re~Cycle through his sponsored tour with the completed vehicle. Also, he is keen to get a branch of Re~Cycle set up in Wales - help needed.

Weldtite: Regularly send us boxes full of rubber patch off-cuts which we send to our partner's workshops. A great example of an unwanted item in the UK finding a valuable use in Africa.

Wilde Side Cycles: a bike shop in Tunbridge, and the largest bike shop in the South, who're collecting and sending us tools and parts, and doing a "trade in your old bike and we'll send it to Africa" deal.
