Re~Cycle's run the Valet bicycle parking (and sold raffle tickets to raise money) for the Bicycle Film Festival (BFF) for a few years, and this info is to help others to run it likewise.
If you've suggestions, please create an account (bottom left) and help by editing it.
Useful, as different volunteers around the world run it, often for the first time and this may save some 'reinventing the wheel'!

PART ONE - BICYCLE VALET PARKING
AIM
To make it quick and easy to lock up many bikes, using locks provided by the organiser, rather than the individual cyclist's locks
Parking Ticket
- Can be a Raffle ticket ~ suggest different type or colour for lack of confusion with prize raffle Number the racks
- Put sign on racks, suggest on every 5 (1, 5, 10, 15, 20) for speed
- Put rack number on back of parking ticket
- Lock friends bikes together, as can unlock at same time
- Ask people to stand by bike when coming out, so can see when bunch of people can be unlocked at the same time Keys
- Multiple bunches for sections of parking, e.g. A-G, G-N
- Label keys with big tags to find the start of the bunch, e.g. A, N (may be dark later + different people doing it)
- Oil the locks
- Before any volunteers leave, check pockets for keys, as major embarrassment + pain when you're half way to Brighton, for example, and you get a call asking where the keys are and its in your back pocket... What locking to
If there are existing sheffield stands, try and stop people using them before hand, eg. notices Can hire crush barriers, metal things at the side of eg. marathon

Text for next time:
Once again, Re~Cycle is the charity partner of the Bicycle Film Festival in London, at the Barbican for the second year, from September 23rd-27th.
Again we're looking for brave volunteers to sell raffle tickets and help run the Valet bicycle parking, from Thursday 24th to Saturday 26th. Volunteers get free film viewings, some food/drink and Madison will be providing Kryptonite T-Shirts to volunteers and hopefully some nice freebies by means of thanking them for their time (maybe round up a few friends so you can do a stint and film together) - please e-mail us.
And again we're raffling a swish bike to raise funds - see below.
